The government has made a significant decision to construct a basic hospital in Dharan, implementing its national commitment to ensure citizens’ access to healthcare services.

In the Cabinet meeting held on Baisakh 21, a proposal was approved to allow Dharan Sub-metropolitan City to utilize land owned by the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

Deepa Dahal, the press and research advisor to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, stated that the government has prioritized this proposal from the Ministry of Health and Population, linking it to the fundamental needs of citizens.

With this decision, the way has been paved for the construction of a well-equipped local hospital on the land plot number 24, located at Chhata Chowk in Dharan Sub-metropolitan City-1.

This step is seen as highly significant in realizing the government’s policy of establishing ‘one basic hospital in every local unit’ and the transformative projects proposed in the 15th plan.

Recognizing the current lack of a basic hospital in Dharan, the federal government has directly addressed local sentiments and needs through this decision. The positive feedback and agreement from the Ministry of Land Management and Cooperatives and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration have confirmed effective coordination among government bodies, Dahal noted.

Despite past opposition at various political levels and on social media regarding land acquisition, the government has fulfilled its responsibility by completing legal and administrative processes to provide a concrete solution, she added.

Dahal further clarified, “By resolving the longstanding land issue, this move has instilled new hope for healthcare services among the people of Dharan and conveyed the message that the federal government remains supportive of local development.”
