Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has expressed objections to the formation of a task force for constitutional amendment. During his first visit to the Koirala residence in Biratnagar after becoming party president, Thapa voiced his dissatisfaction with the task force. The government has formed a task force under the leadership of Prime Minister’s political advisor Asim Shah to discuss constitutional amendments with various stakeholders.

Thapa stated that the formation of the task force is not universally accepted and that the way it is currently operating is problematic. He expressed concerns that the process of constitutional amendment could lead to further complications. “The formation of this task force itself is objectionable. The way it has delved into the subject matter is also inherently problematic,” he said. “This will make constitutional issues even more complex. It will be like opening a Pandora’s box on matters we had already resolved.”

Regarding the context of a weak opposition in Parliament, President Thapa mentioned that efforts are being made to hold the government accountable. He also stated that they will ensure the government is held responsible.
