Ex-Koshi CM Kedar Karki Begins Hunger Strike Over Funding Cuts

Former Chief Minister of Koshi Province, Kedar Karki, has started a hunger strike.

Karki began his hunger strike at the Banaskhandi Temple in front of the Provincial Assembly building in Biratnagar at 4 PM on Tuesday. He is protesting the current government’s reduction of the plans and programs that were announced during his tenure.

Some time ago, Karki had announced his intention to hold a hunger strike in the Provincial Assembly on this issue. Last Sunday, he sent a letter of attention to Chief Minister Hikmat Kumar Karki, giving a 48-hour ultimatum. Karki had given the current Chief Minister time until 4 PM today.

Karki has stated that he is prepared to sacrifice his life if his demands are not met, but he will not back down from the hunger strike. There is also police presence at the protest site.
