Dr. Mitra Bandhu Poudel Unveils Book on Emotional Intelligence and Faculty Retention

LALITPUR, July 10 — A book titled Emotional Intelligence: Perspective on Faculty Retention, authored by Dr. Mitra Bandhu Poudel, Principal of Little Angels’ College of Management, was officially launched at the LA School Premise Hall on Wednesday, bringing together distinguished personalities from academia, education, literature and public service to discuss the growing importance of emotional intelligence in leadership and employee retention.

The book launch ceremony, held from 3:00 pm on July 9, was graced by Mr. Umesh Shrestha, Founder of the LA Education Group, as the Chief Guest, while Mr. Bhisma Upreti, Head of PEN International Nepal Chapter, which published the book, chaired the program.

The ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests from various sectors, including Lt. Gen. (Retd.) P.B. Limbu. The event commenced with a welcome address and opening remarks by Mr. Rajesh Shrestha, Finance Head at LA, who welcomed the guests and highlighted the significance of the publication.

The program featured a panel of eminent reviewers who reflected on the book’s relevance and contribution. Journalist and academician Ms. Sujana Ghimire delivered the first review, followed by Associate Dean at Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM), Associate Professor Dr. Roshee Lamichhane, and former Kathmandu University Controller of Examinations and former Dean, Prof. Dr. Panna Thapa. The speakers praised the book for providing a strong theoretical and practical foundation for understanding emotional intelligence and its critical role in retaining faculty members.

They noted that while the book focuses on educational institutions, its insights are equally valuable for the corporate sector, where employee retention has become an increasingly pressing challenge. The speakers emphasized that emotionally intelligent leadership has become more relevant than ever in building committed, motivated and resilient organizations.

Speaking during the ceremony, Dr. Mitra Bandhu Poudel shared his journey of researching and writing the book. He reflected on the experiences and academic inquiry that inspired him to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence and faculty retention, expressing hope that the publication would contribute to both scholarship and professional practice.

Mr. Umesh Shrestha underscored that in an era increasingly shaped by Artificial Intelligence (AI), the value of Emotional Intelligence (EI) has become even more significant. He remarked that while AI continues to transform industries and education, human qualities such as empathy, emotional awareness, relationship management and trust remain irreplaceable in effective leadership and organizational success.

Delivering the concluding remarks, Mr. Bhisma Upreti described the publication as one of the most meaningful contributions made by PEN International Nepal Chapter, expressing confidence that the book would serve as an important reference for educators, researchers, institutional leaders and professionals seeking to foster stronger workplace cultures.

The ceremony was emceed by Mr. Mukunda Raj Sharma, Principal of LA School, who guided the proceedings attended by academicians, education leaders, researchers, professionals and invited guests from diverse sectors
