District Court sends Khand and Rayamajhi among others to judicial custody on Bhutanese refugee scam

Kathmandu, 16 June: The Kathmandu District Court on Friday has ordered sixteen people including former ministers Bal Krishan Khad and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi to be sent to custody for pre-trial detention following Bhutani refugee scam.

The government attorneys have presented counter arguments today and pleaded to keep the accused in custody so as to ensure that the ongoing investigation would not derail.

The pleading of lawyers on behalf of the accused had been concluded on Thursday.

Among 18 defendants detained so far, two –Tanka Gurung and Laxmi Maharjan are released on bail.

The police on May 22 had submitted its finding to the Attorney General Office recommending the trial of 32 people in connection with refugee scam.
