Nepal Treasure Carbon has begun distributing “improved cookstoves” in various municipalities of the cultural city of Lumbini.

On Saturday, 50 households in Ward No. 1 of Lumbini Sanskritik Municipality received 50 improved cookstoves. According to communication coordinator Sulochana Khatiwada, a total of 2,755 households will be covered within a week.

The programme targets rural areas across 24 local levels in Lumbini Province, including Palhinandan Rural Municipality and Ramgram Municipality.

In the first phase, distribution was jointly launched by Acting Deputy Mayor Kalpana Harijan and Nepal Treasure Carbon Chairperson Adhikari.

Chairperson Adhikari said the initiative aims to distribute 500,000 improved cookstoves nationwide to rural households, starting from Lumbini Province.

He added that improved cookstoves reduce carbon emissions, lower indoor air pollution, decrease firewood consumption, and save cooking time.

Acting Deputy Mayor Harijan said the initiative contributes to mitigating climate change impacts through reduced carbon emissions.

Meanwhile, Siddharthnagar Municipality has also signed an agreement with Nepal Treasure Carbon Limited to distribute improved cookstoves in rural and traditional households, with completion targeted within six months.

According to Managing Director Samiksha Baral, the programme aims to improve the health of women exposed to smoke during daily cooking while supporting climate action.

Nepal Treasure Carbon, a private carbon economy platform under The Promised Group, is headquartered in Khumaltar, Lalitpur, and has been organizing global peace programmes in Lumbini since 2022.
