Demolition of Manohara squatter settlement resumes with heavy security presence

Kathmandu – A team with bulldozers, under heavy security, arrived early this morning to clear the squatter settlement in Manohara, Bhaktapur. After yesterday’s unsuccessful attempt, the administration has resumed efforts to demolish the settlement with increased preparation today.

During yesterday’s demolition attempt, local residents mounted strong protests. The situation became tense when locals started throwing stones, resulting in injuries to some security personnel. Following intense opposition and clashes, the bulldozers were withdrawn yesterday.

Since early morning, a large number of security personnel have been deployed in the Manohara area. Anticipating possible clashes, security measures have been significantly tightened, while locals are also preparing to protest. The administration remains firm in its stance to remove the illegally constructed huts.
