Vice President of CPN-UML, Bishnu Poudel, acknowledged that the party did not achieve the expected results in the election held on Falgun 21 last year and announced plans to initiate organizational restructuring.

Describing the election defeat as a “serious setback”, he declared that the party would move forward in a new direction, limiting the loss to a temporary failure.

Informing about the decisions from the party’s recent meeting, Vice President Poudel stated that a serious review of both internal and external factors contributing to the election results is underway. He mentioned that the party has concluded it cannot progress with its current state and working style. The latest secretariat meeting decided to reorganize the party’s organizational life, and necessary groundwork has already begun.

A secretariat meeting chaired by Chairman KP Sharma Oli formed a task force to conduct a detailed review of the election and prepare concrete proposals for party restructuring. Based on the report and proposals from this task force, UML will determine its future strategy, he said.

He added, “The Chairman will later address why we faced setbacks in this election, and we want to understand the reasons. We will comprehensively review internal, external, domestic, and international factors, as well as reasons within the party. We will learn appropriate lessons from this. We have concluded that our party, as it is now and the way we are working, cannot continue in the same manner. Therefore, we have decided to reorganize the party’s organizational life, as concluded in the secretariat meeting. The meeting has formed a task force to review the election, prepare a review proposal, and draft a proposal for party restructuring.”

Vice President Poudel emphasized the necessity of organizational strengthening to transform the electoral setback into strength and re-establish the party as a credible force among the people.
