Opposition party CPN-UML MP Rajendra Kumar Rai has warned that parliamentary sessions will be disrupted if the government fails to take concrete steps to control the monkey menace within a week.

Despite MPs repeatedly raising this issue in Parliament, the government has not taken it seriously, Rai stated, adding that if appropriate measures are not taken within seven days, it will be difficult to conduct parliamentary sessions.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday, MP Rai highlighted the significant distress caused by monkeys to people’s lives and urged the government to take the issue seriously. He questioned why the government, which controls unruly citizens, is reluctant to manage the monkeys causing trouble for the public.

Rai remarked, “If a person misbehaves, the police arrest them and they are jailed. Today, monkeys have displaced hundreds of people. Many have been deprived of basic food like lentils, rice, and vegetables. Why isn’t the government serious about this? I want to say that among the many tasks of this government, the foremost issue affecting people’s lives is the monkey problem. If this issue isn’t resolved, it will pose a major challenge to improving people’s lives. Therefore, I want to draw the government’s attention to immediately solving the monkey problem. If this issue is not resolved within seven days, whether through legal means or any other method, and the government fails to control it, all MPs will discuss this matter, and it will be difficult to run Parliament.”

MP Rai emphasized that the government should not hesitate to take any necessary measures to free citizens from the monkey menace.
