Kathmandu – CPN-UML MP Guru Prasad Baral has accused the government of launching an extremely inhumane attack on squatters.

He alleged that the government has treated squatters inhumanely by placing them in holding centers in a disorganized manner.

“The government has evicted them without preparation or reliable housing arrangements,” he said at today’s House of Representatives meeting. “In Jestha and Ashadh, the government talked about providing 15,000 rupees. How can a family of five survive in Kathmandu on 100 rupees a day?”

He stated that young people have suffered mental health issues and families have been separated due to being placed in holding centers, urging the government to consider these issues in a timely manner.

Additionally, he highlighted the dire condition of sick and postpartum women in the holding centers and drew the government’s attention to this matter through the Speaker.

In a Cabinet meeting held yesterday, Tuesday, it was decided to provide 15,000 rupees per month to a family of five squatters, with an additional 2,000 rupees for each extra member. MP Baral raised questions in the House today regarding the government’s decision to provide relief to those displaced by bulldozers in squatter settlements, including in Kathmandu.
