Kathmandu – The Election Commission has urged the government to take initiative in creating a positive electoral environment.

On Friday, while discussing election preparations with Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari requested the government to act proactively to foster an atmosphere of enthusiasm around the polls.

After the Gen‑Z movement, Sushila Karki was appointed as Prime Minister with the responsibility to hold elections on Falgun 21. While the government says it is intensifying efforts on security and other fronts, parties are still not fully confident.

In this situation, Bhandari has pushed for a joint meeting including the top party leaders, the Prime Minister, heads of security agencies, and the Election Commission.

He said, “It is necessary for the top political leaders, the honorable Prime Minister, all ministers, the Election Commission, representatives of the Gen‑Z movement, and the heads of security bodies to sit together for a broad discussion. If this is delayed much longer, it will harm the victims. That’s why I have urged it to happen soon.”

Prime Minister Karki has reportedly been reluctant to hold a meeting with top party leaders. She has expressed that she does not want to “see the faces” of UML Chairman Oli, Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal. In response, both Oli and Dahal have publicly expressed their dissatisfaction.

The Commission has also drawn the government’s attention to organizing similar discussions at the provincial level — arguing that programs in all seven provinces could send a strong message about security and the electoral atmosphere.

Bhandari added, “If we manage to hold at least seven such programs, one in each province, that would send a very powerful signal. Honorable Home Minister, this is also a notable issue; we have received many such requests. Now, please engage in the election with confidence. We guarantee peace and security for everyone who will vote, file nominations, or run as a candidate. If we can say that, many of the worries and doubts currently lingering around the election will be resolved.”
