Chief Justice Raut Retires Today; Sapana Pradhan Malla Becomes Acting Chief Justice

Kathmandu — Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut is retiring today upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.

Following his retirement, the senior-most Supreme Court justice, Sapana Pradhan Malla, will assume the role of Acting Chief Justice.

Raut was appointed Chief Justice in October 2024 on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council, with his appointment made by President Ram Chandra Poudel.

He took office after the retirement of former Chief Justice Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha.

Raut has a legal career spanning 33 years, including 8 years as a Supreme Court justice.
