CC recommends Bishwambhar P Shrestha as new CJ

The Constitutional Council (CC) has unanimously nominated Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, senior most judge to be the next CJ.

A meeting of the CC held in the afternoon today made the nomination.

Shrestha was appointed as justice in the SC on 1 August 2016 and will be succeeding Hari Krishan Karki when he retires on 5th of August on age grounds.

The president will be appointing him the CJ once the Parliamentary Hearing Committee approves the recommendation made by CC.

The CC chaired by the PM as ex officio Chair comprises members including Speaker of the both Houses, the leader of the main opposition party and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
