Bus accident in Dhanusha injures 17 passengers on East-West Highway

A bus traveling from Kathmandu to Kakadvitta met with an accident while attempting to overtake, injuring 17 people.

The incident occurred around 5:45 AM on Sunday near the football ground in Mithila Municipality-9, Dhanusha, on the East-West Highway. The bus, with the license plate number Ba.Pra. 01–006 Kha 5237, was trying to overtake another bus heading from Kathmandu to Biratnagar when the accident happened, according to Dhanusha police spokesperson Deputy Superintendent Ganesh Bahadur Bam.

Out of the 33 passengers on board, 17 were injured and are currently receiving treatment at Model Hospital in Lalgadh, as reported by the police.

The injured include the bus driver, 43-year-old Bishnu Bista from Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-9 in Makwanpur, 50-year-old Biraj Sheikh from Assam, India, 35-year-old Satan Sheikh, 28-year-old Aftab Ansari, 20-year-old Sujan Yadav from Harinagar Municipality-4 in Sunsari, 32-year-old Ajay Kafle from Chandan Gadhi Municipality-6 in Udayapur, 21-year-old Riddhi Khadka and 21-year-old Saran Khadka from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-32, and 42-year-old Lalita Bhujel from Ganeshman Charnath Municipality-5 in Dhanusha.

Also injured are 38-year-old Dijendra Nyaupane from Lalbandi Municipality-1 in Sarlahi, the bus conductor 28-year-old Mukesh Sah from Biratnagar in Morang, 28-year-old Kabita Bhujel from Thathar Rural Municipality-4 in Tehrathum, 34-year-old Meri Rai from Dharan-17 in Sunsari, 20-year-old Nyusan Thapa from Jhijhile-8 in Jhapa, 33-year-old Rajkumar Urau from Inarwa-9 in Sunsari, 44-year-old Ratandev Mandal from Mirchaiya Municipality-1 in Siraha, and 33-year-old Santoshi Urau from Inarwa.

The bus with the license plate number Pr 1–01–001 Kha 4224 sustained minor damage during the overtaking attempt but continued to its destination, according to Dhanusha police.
