Kathmandu, 5 May: The 2567 birth anniversary is being marked today with much reverence to Buddha and his teachings. There is a coincidence that the dates (lunar calendar) the Buddha got birth, wisdom, and Mahaparinirvan (passing away) fall the same.

The day widely known as Buddha Jayanti is celebrated as a day to honour Buddha’s contribution to peace and non-violence.

“It is a matter of pride for all Nepali people to note that Nepal is a birthplace of Gautam Buddha – who is respected as the apostle of global peace”-  president Ram Chandra Poudel said delivering his message on the occasion of the Buddha Jayanti.

Similarly, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said “activism coupled with mutual harmony, collaboration and unity being proud of Buddhist philosophy and teaching was a true homage to Buddha”.

Buddha Jayanti is being marked organizing several programs by the Buddhist Communities across the world. The grand programmes are being held in Lumbini, Swayambhunath and Baudhanath here in Nepal so as to commemorate Buddha.
