Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah has thrown his support behind former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, whom the Gen Z group has proposed as interim head of government. He has urged President Ramchandra Poudel to immediately form an interim government and dissolve parliament.

He praised Gen Z, saying their proposal reflects maturity and wisdom. He also urged Hastamapur Mayor Harka Sampang not to rush. According to Balen, an interim government is the right approach as its task is to conduct elections and deliver a new public mandate, making Karki’s nomination sensible.

Here’s Balen’s full statement translated:

Dear Gen-Z and all Nepalis,

Our country is facing an unprecedented moment in history. You are stepping toward a bright future—please don’t panic, stay patient. The nation is now headed for an interim government that will conduct elections. Its sole purpose is to hold elections and provide the country a new mandate.

I fully support the proposal for former Chief Justice Sushila Karki to lead this interim/election government. I deeply respect your wisdom, discernment, and unity; this reflects how mature you all are.

To those impatient souls seeking quick leadership—I urge you: your energy, vision, and integrity are what the nation needs sustainably—not just in the short term. Elections will happen. Please, don’t rush.

Honourable President,
To preserve the historic revolution initiated by Gen-Z, please immediately form the interim government and dissolve parliament
