America secured its place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup by registering a second consecutive win in Group ‘D’. In a thrilling match at Seattle Stadium, America defeated Australia 2-0 to advance to the last 16. Previously, America had defeated Paraguay in their opening match, collecting a clear 6 points from two games.

With this victory, America is assured of progressing to the next round as at least one of the best third-placed teams.

America took an early lead due to a mistake by the opposing team. In the 11th minute, Australia’s defender Cameron Burgess scored an own goal while attempting to clear a cross delivered into the box by America’s Folarin Balogun.

Later, in the 43rd minute, Alex Freeman scored an excellent goal to double America’s lead. Despite an improved performance in the second half, Australia, trailing 2-0 at halftime, could not manage to score.

After this defeat, Australia has 3 points from two matches, while the other two teams in the group, Paraguay and Turkey, remain without points.
