Kathmandu – Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) MP Krantishikha Dhital has criticized the government for failing in managing the squatters.

RSP MPs, who remained silent when bulldozers were deployed in squatter settlements under Prime Minister Balen Shah’s direct orders on Baisakh 12, are now raising questions about the government’s shortcomings.

Dhital expressed that the tears of the squatters on the streets should affect everyone, criticizing the government. She questioned whether the treatment of squatters aligns with the party’s manifesto. “The tears of the squatters on the streets should affect us all. The management of squatters was extremely necessary. But did it happen according to our manifesto? Is this what a guardian state looks like?” Dhital questioned.

She acknowledged through social media platform Facebook that the lack of sensitivity in handling the issue has exposed the government’s incompetence.

“The task should have been carried out with the necessary sensitivity, planning, and responsibility, but it wasn’t. This has only highlighted the state’s weaknesses and incompetence,” she wrote.

Despite the government’s promise to manage the forcibly evicted squatters from the settlements within 15 days, more than two months have passed without any management. The squatters have also been removed from the holding center.

As of today, food distribution at the holding center has also stopped. Videos have surfaced showing some squatters crying over the lack of food.

After being evicted from hotels as well, squatters are desperately seeking shelter and food.

While ruling party MPs have been unable to speak on the matter, Dhital has publicly criticized the government’s incompetence.
