Kathmandu – Amid ongoing discussions about leftist unity among Nepal’s communist parties, CPN-UML leader Gokul Baskota has sharply criticized the idea. As UML Chair KP Sharma Oli and CPN Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, along with other top leaders, advance the debate on leftist unity, Baskota has expressed his dissatisfaction and sarcasm through social media.

In his social media post, Baskota described the current efforts for unity as a “repeated attempt to mend a broken pot”. He remarked that while the top leadership portrays the current political situation as a “grave danger” and the debate appears appealing on the surface, it is essentially a “blunt weapon” used to hide failures and cling to power.

Baskota challenged the leaders advocating for unity to acknowledge past mistakes and transfer leadership. He wrote, “If you truly seek reform and power, first admit the mistake of causing division. Can you step aside and let your colleagues lead?”
