At least 32 people have been killed and more than 700 injured after a powerful earthquake struck Venezuela on Wednesday evening, Acting President Delcy Rodríguez said.

She warned that the death toll could rise further as search and rescue operations continue.

The country was hit by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, causing dozens of buildings to collapse. Emergency response teams have been deployed across the affected areas to carry out rescue and relief operations.

According to Rodríguez, La Guaira state has been the hardest-hit region, facing a severe humanitarian crisis.

She said numerous buildings have been destroyed, and security forces and emergency personnel are working continuously to rescue people trapped beneath the rubble.

Describing La Guaira as a disaster zone, Rodríguez said saving lives remains the government’s top priority. She added that rescue workers are making relentless efforts under difficult conditions to reach survivors.

The government has accelerated relief and medical assistance in the affected areas, while authorities continue to assess the full extent of the damage.
