Kathmandu – Indira Ranamagar, a Member of Parliament from the ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has urged the government to take immediate action to control the increasing elephant menace in Jhapa and other districts of the Terai region.

Speaking during the emergency session of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, she highlighted the near absence of government presence in settlements near forests, leaving citizens feeling unsafe.

MP Rana informed that Dinesh Parajuli from Arjundhara-2 in Jhapa was seriously injured in an elephant attack and has been hospitalized. She called on the government to ensure proper treatment for him.

Pointing out that the terror of wild animals is not limited to Jhapa but affects the entire Terai region, she cautioned against delays in providing treatment and relief to the injured.

She remarked that the lack of forest guards and minimal security measures in forest areas have led locals to feel as if there is no government presence.

MP Rana stated, “There is no provision of basic security equipment like lights and microphones for citizens living near forests, and there are not enough guards. In such a situation, the government must bring a concrete plan to maintain coexistence between humans and wildlife.”

She added, “To stop the incidents of citizens being killed or injured by wild animal attacks, the government must immediately arrange the necessary resources and manpower.”

She has drawn the government’s attention through Parliament to prioritize the safety of people living near forests.
