Prime Minister Karki Calls Qatari Counterpart to Discuss Safety of Nepali Workers

Kathmandu — Prime Minister Sushila Karki held a telephone conversation today with her Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, expressing concern over the recent developments in the West Asia region.

According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Karki thanked the Qatari prime minister on behalf of the Government of Nepal and the Nepali people for ensuring the safety and protection of around 360,000 Nepali citizens living in Qatar.

She said Nepal is closely monitoring the evolving situation in West Asia and stressed that all concerned parties should exercise restraint, avoid further escalation of conflict, and ensure the safety of civilians.

Karki also emphasized that all nations must respect and adhere to the United Nations Charter, international law, the Geneva Conventions, and humanitarian law.

Stating that war cannot be an alternative to peace under any circumstances, the prime minister said lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy.

She also expressed confidence that relations between Nepal and Qatar would further strengthen in the coming days through high-level visits, economic and cultural cooperation, and people-to-people ties.

During the telephone conversation, Karki also expressed solidarity with Qatar and conveyed serious concern over attacks on Qatari sovereign territory, particularly on civilian areas. She expressed confidence that Qatar would be capable of addressing the current situation through a constructive role.

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Al-Thani praised the cordial, close and friendly relations between Nepal and Qatar.
