U.S. President Donald J. Trump has issued a strict directive to begin a comprehensive review of all Green Cards (permanent residency permits) issued to citizens of 19 countries.

Following a shooting in Washington, D.C., involving two National Guard members, the administration has taken a major step to dramatically intensify scrutiny of immigrants from what it calls “countries of concern.”

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Joseph Edlow announced on Twitter-X Thursday that — per President Trump’s order — a full and stringent re-examination of every Green Card issued to foreign nationals from those “concerned” countries will begin immediately.

When asked which countries are considered “of concern,” USCIS told CNN that the 19 countries listed in the presidential proclamation published in June are being used as the basis. The 19 countries include: Afghanistan, Burma (Myanmar), Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela
