Floods and Landslides Shut Down Nine Highways Across Three Provinces

Kathmandu — Heavy rains across various parts of the country have triggered floods and landslides, blocking nine major highways across three provinces.

According to the Police Headquarters, highways in Koshi, Bagmati, and Karnali provinces have become impassable. In Sankhuwasabha, the Koshi Highway at Varunkhola (Ward 4, Bhotkhola Rural Municipality) and at Ekuwa (Ward 3, Makalu Rural Municipality) are blocked. In Ilam, the Mechi Highway at Rajduwali (Ward 9, Ilam Municipality) has been cut off, and in Panchthar the Tamor Corridor at Navakhola (Ward 2, Tumbeva Rural Municipality) is also blocked.

In Rasuwa, the Pasang Lhamu section (Ward 2, Gosaikunda Rural Municipality) is blocked; in Kavrepalanchok the VP Highway at Mamtikhol (Ward 11, Roshi Rural Municipality) is closed; and in Sindhuli the VP Highway at Nepal Thok (Ward 1, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality) is also affected. In Humla, the Karnali Corridor at Kurilla (Ward 5, Kharpunath Rural Municipality) is fully blocked, and in Kalikot the Karnali Corridor at Jugeni Khola (Ward 8, Pachaljharana Rural Municipality) is also completely blocked, according to Police Spokesperson Vinod Ghimire.

Meanwhile, in Province 1, the Koshi local road at Sangurigadhi (Ward 1, Dhankuta) has been affected. In Bagmati, parts of the Kanti Lokpath at Baguwakhola (Ward 8, Bhimphedi Rural Municipality, Makwanpur) and at Ghattepahi (Ward 11, Vekaiya Rural Municipality, Makwanpur) are now operating one-way only, police say.
