Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal Gets Bail After 6 Months

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be released on a 1 million rupee bail. The Supreme Court granted him bail on Friday in a case involving the CBI’s FIR related to the liquor policy. The court imposed conditions including no public comments on the case and mandatory attendance at all court proceedings.

Kejriwal had previously filed two petitions with the Supreme Court: one challenging the denial of bail and another contesting his arrest by the CBI. He was arrested by the ED on March 20, 2024, and granted bail by the Supreme Court in July. However, the CBI arrested him in June, which prevented his release.

Delhi Minister Atishi Marlena Singh praised the court’s decision, stating “Satyamev Jayate,” while BJP leader Virender Sachdeva argued that Kejriwal has no right to function as Chief Minister. AAP leader Manish Sisodia celebrated the court’s decision as a victory for truth.

The Supreme Court also granted Kejriwal interim bail for 21 days until June 2 for election campaigning. Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and AAP leader Sanjay Singh have also been granted bail. AAP accuses the BJP of using central agencies to target opposition leaders, a claim the BJP denies.
