TU Prof Chalaune detained, released
Kathmandu,19 June: Prem Chalaune, an assistant Professor of Tribhuvan University (TU) today began his indefinite hunger protesting against the government move to withdraw cases who were involved in physically assaulting him.
Chalaune informed the supreme court this morning that he would begin an indefinite ‘hunger strike’ alleging that the government was preparing to withdraw the cases against six people, all of them belonging to the Nepali Congress affiliated Nepal Students Union, although the court had held them guilty and asked them to pay compensation to the victim.
But the police intervened, and took Chalaune to custody in Singha Durbar police beat till the Supreme Court rose for the day.
Chalaue who teaches in the sociology department, said he will continue the strike till his demands are fulfilled.
Chalaune said the attack on him in the TU premises was a well planned conspiracy, and the assault was an attempt to murder him.
