Kathmandu – Ghanshyam Bhusal, General Secretary of CPN (Unified Socialist), has sharply criticized the ongoing debate within CPN-UML about KP Sharma Oli becoming party chair for a third term.

Speaking at a program organized on Tuesday by the Center for Marxist Studies to mark Pushpa Lal Memorial Day, Bhusal commented on various negative trends he sees in the communist movement.

He remarked that discussions in Chyasal are underway to keep Oli in leadership not just for 15–20 years but even posthumously.

Bhusal said:

“Our movement’s leadership now says, ‘Don’t look at my chair for the next 20 years.’ Another leader says, ‘No, not 20, I’ll prepare others and step down in 10–15 years.’ Yet another group is already over in Chyasal—not discussing 10 or 20 years—but offering ritual praise (āratī), declaring, ‘You must remain leader for life—even after death.’ This is the contradiction within the communist movement.”

Bhusal also remarked that although major political movements have succeeded, the system has failed to prevent corruption.

“It turns out you can build a revolutionary party, but you cannot stop bribery. It seems you can’t avoid factionalism when it comes to grabbing the party or eating bribes. Our revolutionary movement has been hindered by comprador capitalism,” he said.
