Telecommunications Authority Directs Internet Service Providers to Lift TikTok Ban

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority has directed all Internet service providers to lift the ban on TikTok.

Although the Council of Ministers decided on September 6 to lift the ban on TikTok, the platform had not been operational due to a lack of agreement between the government and TikTok.

On Wednesday, three representatives, including a commissioner, from TikTok’s Singapore office arrived in Nepal. After discussing the conditions set by the government at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the government has decided to fully reopen TikTok.

The Ministry had sent a letter to the Nepal Telecommunications Authority on Thursday to lift the ban on TikTok. Accordingly, the Authority issued a notice on Friday directing all Internet service providers to remove the ban.

The notice states, “Until further notice, using the authority granted under Section 15 of the Telecommunications Act, 2053, a directive has been issued to all relevant Internet service providers and mobile service providers to lift the ban on TikTok.”
