Sherpas and a French climber conquer Cho Oyu from Nepal side

Kathmandu – A team of six Sherpas, along with a French climber, has successfully summited Cho Oyu.

This seven-member team achieved the first successful ascent of Cho Oyu from Nepal’s new route.

The team returned to Kathmandu on Monday after their successful climb via the new route on the Nepal side (S-SSW Ride, SST Nepal Route).

The expedition company Seven Summit Treks welcomed them at Tribhuvan Airport Monday afternoon.

Although Cho Oyu (8,188 meters) has been successfully climbed from the Chinese side, this team achieved the first successful ascent from the Nepal side on June 7 at 8:35 AM.

Mingma Sherpa, the president of Seven Summit Treks, stated that this was the first successful ascent of Cho Oyu via the new route on the Nepal side.

The seven-member team included Alasdair MacKenzie from France, and from Nepal: Galje Sherpa, Chanwa Sherpa, Tenzing Gyaltzen Sherpa, Lakpa Temba Sherpa, Lakpa Tenji Sherpa, and Ngima Ongda Sherpa. The Department of Tourism honored the team with certificates.
