Sheikh Hasina’s diplomatic passport annulled

Kathmandu:  The new Bangladesh Government has canceled the diplomatic passports held by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajed who fled to India on August five in the midst of massive protest in her country to oust her.

A release by the Home Ministry in Dhaka said that the diplomatic passports held by Sheikh Hasina and former dignitaries including her cabinet colleagues had been canceled.

They have been asked to approach the new government for alternate documents.

Sheikh Hasina had fled Dhaka under the protection of Bangladesh Army as the protest against her reached its peak endangering her safety.

Sheikh Hasina is currently in India in asylum, amidst fear that the new government in Dhaka may ask for her extradition to face various corruption charges that the new government may want to pursue.

At least 450 people who came down in the streets demanding her exit were killed in the past few weeks.
