SC issues show-cause order

The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice to Maoist Center’s Chief and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on a petition seeking his trial in a mass murder case during the insurgency between 1996 and 2006.

The order providing the timeline of 15 days was issued by a single bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Ishwar Khatiwada.

Gyanendra Aaran and 26 others have filed petition in the Supreme Court on Tuesday demanding that Prachanda be tried for the mass murder as he had admitted in a public meeting three years ago that he was willing to take the responsibility of 5,000 out of 17,000 deaths that took place during the decade long conflict.
