Renowned Tabla Maestro Zakir Hussain Passes Away at 73

The renowned tabla player Zakir Hussain has passed away at the age of 73.

According to media reports, Hussain passed away on Monday at a hospital in San Francisco.

Citing family members, media outlets reported that he had been hospitalized in San Francisco for the past two weeks. As his health worsened during treatment, he was moved to the ICU. It was during his time in the ICU that he passed away on Sunday afternoon, according to the local time there.

Zakir Hussain, the eldest son of tabla maestro Allah Rakha, followed in his father’s footsteps and made a name for himself worldwide. He had won four Grammy Awards.
