PHC rejects Pradhan’s nomination to the Election Commission
Kathmandu, 29 July: Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) today rejected the nomination of Krishnaman Pradhan for his appointment as an Election Commissioner.
Pradhan had been nominated for the post by the Constitutional Council (CC) which is headed by the Prime Minister and has Chief Justice, leader of the opposition, Chairpersons of the two Houses and a deputy speaker of the House of Representatives as members.
The Hearing Committee also declined to accept an application submitted by Pradhan to withdraw from the nomination process.
This is the second instance that the Hearing Committee of Parliament has rejected the nomination made by the Council ever since the system of parliamentary hearing was introduced in 2008.
Pradhan, Executive Director of the Nepal Law Society, was accused of sexually exploiting a woman colleague.
