Oli- Modi meet, no invitation for Delhi trip to Nepal PM

Kathmandu: The summit meeting between Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York may have been the first such meeting after Oli took office in mid-July, but it apparently fell short of his expectations.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose not to extend an invitation to Oli for an official visit to India.

Modi had already received an invitation from Arzu Rana Deuba, who visited Delhi in August on Oli’s behalf, but Modi chose not to reciprocate it.

However, Modi expressed his willingness to make use of that invitation and visit Nepal—his first during his third and seemingly troubled tenure.

In his social media post on X, Modi commented, ‘Had a very good meeting with Prime Minister KP Oli in New York. The India-Nepal friendship is very robust and we look forward to adding even more momentum to our ties. Our talks focused on issues such as energy, technology and trade.’

Oli, however, highlighted the significance of the meeting with Modi from his own perspective.
