Kathmandu – A Nepali student studying at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Orissa, India has been found dead. Prakriti Lamsal, a 3rd year B-Tech student at KIIT, was found dead in the college hostel. Although the college administration claimed that she committed suicide, the Nepali students studying there demanded an investigation stating that her death was suspicious.

The protesting Nepali students have been ordered to vacate the college. Nepali students who protested the incident and demanded an investigation were also repressed by the security personnel.

“Nepali students have been instructed to vacate the college,” the college said in a statement.

On the other hand, Sumana Shrestha, a member of Parliament of the Rastriya Swatantra Party expressed her objection saying that she did not get time in Parliament when she tried to speak about the Nepali student who died in Orissa.  After trying to speak several times, she did not get time, so she boycotted the Parliament meeting and left.

Regarding the issue, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government is understanding it diplomatically. He said on social media on Monday, “It has been reported through the media and social media that a Nepali student died in the hostel of KIIT and that Nepali students were forcibly removed from the hostel. The government is working on this matter in a diplomatic manner.”
