National AI policy 2082 approved, here are other decisions made by the cabinet

Kathmandu – The government has approved the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2082. This decision was made during the Cabinet meeting on Monday, as announced by Government Spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday to disclose the Cabinet decisions, he also mentioned the approval of guidelines for procuring services for the operation and maintenance of public infrastructure.

According to him, the meeting accepted a grant of 9 million US dollars (approximately 1.25 billion Nepali rupees) from the South Korean government for the development of infrastructure at the Gandaki Technical Institute.

He further informed that the minimum support price for coarse rice has been set at 3,463.81 rupees per quintal and for medium rice, it is 3,628.33 rupees per quintal for the fiscal year 2082/83.

Other decisions from Monday’s Cabinet meeting include:

1. Approval of a study tour in Switzerland for Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh of Madhes Province to participate in a program on Intergovernmental Cooperation and Competitiveness in the Swiss Federal System from Bhadra 15 to 21, 2062.

2. Permission for Deputy Auditor General Bindu Bista to attend the SAI Support Workshop of the Asian Organization of Supreme Institutions in the Philippines from Ashoj 6 to 10, 2082.

3. Acceptance of a grant worth 9 million US dollars from South Korea for the infrastructure development project of Gandaki Technical Institute.

4. Setting the minimum support price for coarse and medium rice for fiscal year 2082/83 at 3,463.81 rupees and 3,628.33 rupees per quintal, respectively.

5. Approval for the Minister of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation to attend the Global Infrastructure Cooperation Conference 2025 in Seoul, South Korea, from Bhadra 31 to Ashoj 2, 2082.

6. Appointment of Dr. Ramesh Prasad Chaulagai from Bhaktapur as an expert member of the National Cooperative Regulation Authority.

7. Authorization for Himali Rural Municipality in Bajura to use 7,485 square meters of government land for administrative building construction.

8. Permission for the use of 0-14-0-2 land in Myanglung, Tehrathum for the construction of the National Investigation District Office building.

9. Approval for Himali Rural Municipality to use 23,055 square meters of land for building a healthcare center in Bajura.

10. Authorization for the Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport to attend the Ministerial Roundtable Session at the Asia-Pacific Regional Road Safety Conference in the Philippines from Bhadra 24 to 26, 2082.

11. Permission for an international visit for a Brigadier General of the Nepali Army and an extension for an Assistant Rathi’s tenure.

12. Approval for the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology to attend the Second Global Summit of the School Meals Coalition in Fortaleza, Brazil, from Ashoj 2 to 3, 2082.

13. Approval of 725 temporary officer-level positions for Employment Service Centers and Technical Training Centers under the Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security for fiscal year 2082/83.

14. Approval for the Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation to attend the 42nd Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal, Canada, from Ashoj 7 to 17, 2082.

15. Appointment of Sandeep Rai from Panchthar as the General Manager of the National News Agency.

16. Issuance of an obstacle clearance order under the Public Procurement Act, 2063 and approval of guidelines for procurement of public infrastructure operation, management, and maintenance services via service providers for 2082.

17. Fixing the usage fee for the Nagdhunga tunnel (car/vans: 65 rupees on entry into Kathmandu and 60 rupees on exit; mini bus/trucks: 115 rupees entry, 80 exit; bus/trucks: 260 entry, 200 exit; heavy equipment: 600 rupees entry, 250 exit).
