Maj Gen Shrestha being court martialed

Kathmandu; Baburam Shrestha, a senior most Major General in the Nepal army, has been taken into custody following court martial process initiated against him.

Shrestha was aspiring to be promoted to the rank of Lt. General, and possibly as the next Chief succeeding Gen Ashok Sigdel, but his arrest seems to have cut short his further rise.

Nepal army sources said a military court is being set up to try him in corruption and other charges.  An accountant and a junior army personnel have also been taken into custody. sources said.

Previously, Prem Shahi, a major General who also served as Military secretary to then Chief Purna Chandra Thapa  and two colonels had been dismissed from the service after court martial proceedings was launched at the behest of  Gen Prabhu Ram Sharma, previous army chief, on the charge of plotting mutiny,
