Lt. Gen Sigdel to be new chief of Army

Kathmandu: Lt Gen Ashok Sigdel will be officiating as the Acting Chief of the Nepal Army when incumbent Prabhu Ram Sharma proceeds on a month long leave preparatory to his retirement next week.

A communique issued by the President’s office said Lt Gen Sigdel will be the Acting Chief when Gen. Sharma proceeds on leave from August Nine.

Sharma will retire on September 9 on completion of his three years tenure as the Chief of the Army.

Lt Gen Sigdel will subsequently succeed Gen Sharna as the Chief of the Nepal Army.

The decision to designate Lt Gen Sigd as the Acting Chief was taken by the cabinet on Monday.
