Kesharjung Baral, a Maoist favourite, is TU’s new VC

Kathmandu, 22 Feb:Prof. Kesharujung Baral has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Tribhuvan University (TU).

Prime Minister and ex-officio chancellor of TU Pushpa Kamal Dahal signed the letter appointing him today.

The selection and recommendation committee constituted for the purpose had short listed Chitra Bahadur Budhathoki, Kesharjung Baral and Tankanath Dhakal out of 43 applicants for the post.

The new process adopted had drawn huge protest from academia and policy, but the government justified it as the best way to filter political and partisan influence.

Ironically, Baral had earlier served as VC of Pokhara University some 15 years ago in the Maoists quota.
