Jimbu Thakali Fined 3 Lakhs for Selling Mineral Water at Double Price

The Department of Commerce, Supply & Consumer Protection has fined the restaurant “Jimbu Thakali” in Shantinagar, Kathmandu, 300,000 Nepali Rupees. The fine was imposed for selling mineral water at double the marked price.

Complaints from consumers indicated that Jimbu Thakali charged 100 Nepali Rupees for mineral water that should cost 35 Nepali Rupees. In response, a team led by Director General Rajan Poudel conducted a surprise inspection of the restaurant.

Director General Poudel stated that he too had been cheated by the restaurant. He explained that the restaurant charged consumers double the marked price for water, leading to the fine of 300,000 Nepali Rupees under the Consumer Protection Act of 2075.

He warned that if the restaurant is found selling any item, including water, at a price higher than the marked price again, it will be shut down.

He also mentioned that the department has deployed seven teams for market monitoring during the festival season. He emphasized that the department is intensifying market inspections across the Kathmandu Valley and the country to protect consumers from fraud.
