Iran is planning to establish a “Defense Council” as part of a new administrative restructuring. According to sources cited by agencies, the structure of this council will soon be finalized, and it will be tasked with executing strategic actions related to Iran’s defense policies.

This decision follows structural reforms within Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC). There is potential for Ali Larijani, an advisor to the Supreme Leader and former parliament speaker, to soon lead the SNSC. Current secretary Ali Akbar Ahmadian is expected to manage the country’s special and strategic affairs, which require high-level management and coordination.

In a post on social media platform X, Noor News, which is associated with the SNSC, mentioned, “Following the necessary preparations and structural reforms, there is an increased possibility of imminent changes in some high-level security institutions.”
