India sets a target of 672 runs for England, Gill becomes highest run-scorer for India in a single Test

In the ongoing five-match Test series between England and India, India has set a formidable target for England in the second Test. At the Birmingham Test, India has posed a challenge by setting a victory target of 608 runs.

For India, captain Shubman Gill delivered an outstanding performance with a century in the second innings, scoring 161 runs. In the first innings, he had already put up an impressive 269 runs. With this achievement, Gill becomes the first Indian player to score more than 400 runs in a single Test. India amassed a total of 1,014 runs across both innings, marking the first time in Test history that the team has exceeded a thousand runs in a single Test match.

Apart from Gill, KL Rahul contributed 55 runs, Rishabh Pant made 65, and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten at 69 runs. India declared their innings at 427 for 6, setting a cumulative target of 608 runs.

On the fourth day, England began their chase and concluded the day’s play at 72 for 3. Heading into the final day, England needs an additional 536 runs to win. For a draw, England will need to survive the entire day. In the second innings, Ben Duckett scored 25 before getting out, while Zak Crawley was dismissed without troubling the scorers. At the crease, Ollie Pope stands at 24 not out, with Harry Brooks unbeaten on 15.
