Independent parliamentarian strips shirt to protest refusal by the chair to speak on refugee-corruption scandal
Kathmandu, 08 May: Amaresh Kumar Singh, an Independent member of the House of Representatives, today chose not a very decent way of protest when speaker Dev Raj Ghimire overruled his request that he be given a chance to speak.
Ghimire was insisting that the House schedule should continue as decided on the recommendation of the Business advisory committee. However, Singh, who was on his feet that he must not be stopped from speaking on such an issue, stripped his shirt and put it aside.
He continued to shout bare-chested that the issue of Bhutani refugees and the involvement of cross party leaders into it must be debated threadbare.
The speaker asked the member to keep ‘decorum and dignity’ of the House uppermost in mind while doing or speaking anything inside.
