Kathmandu – Gagan Kumar Thapa, the General Secretary of the Nepali Congress, expressed concerns that the party’s disciplinary actions against its leaders were neither appropriate by the statutes nor timely.

Addressing an event in Kathmandu on Monday, Thapa mentioned his intention to discuss the matter with party president Sher Bahadur Deuba. He emphasized the need to work towards greater unity within the party.

Thapa remarked that the Congress is currently under immense pressure from all sides, and likened the ongoing disciplinary actions to a “Kot Parva,” indicating they were misguided.

He criticized the actions as being untimely and inconsistent with the party’s traditions, laws, and statutes. According to him, such moves would only further weaken the party. He said, “Recently, an unpleasant incident occurred within the party. I still intend to engage with our esteemed president. It’s crucial to foster broad internal unity, as we find ourselves encircled on all fronts. The way an internal ‘Kot Parva’ unfolded was inappropriate in terms of both timing and the party’s traditions and statutes. It weakens the party further.”
