Flood Sweeps Away Three Houses in Solukhumbu
Jhapa – In Thame of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-5 in Solukhumbu, three houses have been swept away by a major flood.
On Friday afternoon, a sudden flood from upstream caused three houses to be washed away, according to Devi Pandey Khatri, the Chief District Officer of Solukhumbu. According to CDO Pandey, four or five more houses are at risk of being affected by the flood, and one hostel has been partially destroyed.
She mentioned that the exact cause of the flood has not been confirmed yet. It seems that the flood might have occurred after a landslide blocked the river.
She said, “From what we can see, it appears that the landslide slightly obstructed the river, and the flood might have originated from there. It doesn’t seem to be a glacial melt flood, but we cannot be certain at this point.”
As of now, there are no reports of human casualties, and the Nepal Army has rescued five to seven people, according to CDO Pandey.
