Despite 14 judge positions vacant at Patan High Court, no pending cases older than two years

Patan – According to the court’s Registrar, Shreelal Paudel, there are now no pending cases older than two years, and only 22 cases are over 18 months old.

Out of the sanctioned 36 judge positions at the Patan High Court, only 22 judges are currently serving. Despite the 14 vacancies, the court has successfully cleared all two-year-old cases.

This fiscal year, 11,845 new cases were registered. Of the 11,323 cases set as the target for resolution, 11,234 have been settled, achieving a 99.21% clearance rate as of Asar 25 (July 9). Paudel expressed confidence that the court will reach 100% of its target within the remaining five days of the fiscal year. This is the first time in the court’s history that all cases older than two years have been cleared.

Chief Justice of the Patan High Court, Lal Bahadur Kunwar, speaking at a press conference, stated that the judiciary has completed the first year of its five-year strategic plan and the performance across courts has been satisfactory. He emphasized the importance of timely and efficient justice delivery and revealed plans to ensure that no case exceeds 18 months in the coming fiscal year.
