Deepak Thapa Becomes New Police Chief

Kathmandu – Deepak Thapa has been appointed as the Inspector General of Nepal Police, the 31st person official hold the position.

The Council of Ministers appointed Deepak Thapa as the 31st Inspector General of Nepal Police on Monday, succeeding Basanta Kunwar, whose term ends at midnight.

Thapa, previously head of the Central Investigation Bureau, will only serve for six months. Thapa was chosen over other contenders, Sudeep Giri and Tek Bahadur Tamang.

All three joined the police force on the same day in 2052 BS.

Thapa was promoted to AIG at the same time as Kunwar, making him the senior AIG.

Several other high-ranking police officials also retired on the same day as Kunwar, having completed 30 years of service.
