Kathmandu—The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has urged the public not to download a mobile app named ‘NEPSE AI’ which is being promoted through social media.

Police have stated that there has been a recent rise in incidents where advertisements using the name of the stock market are shown on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to entice users to download the app, followed by financial fraud. The public has been advised to be cautious, as the app promises to analyze the stock market with AI to generate high profits, which is being used as a deceptive scheme.

According to the Bureau, after a victim installs the app, they are asked to click on an empty part of their mobile screen through the app. Subsequently, sensitive information from the user’s mobile is stolen, and funds worth hundreds of thousands of rupees are transferred from their bank accounts. Several such cases have been reported.

Police have also mentioned that in such incidents, the perpetrators gain full control of the victim’s digital device, leading to further damage.

To avoid such risks, police have provided the following advice:

  • Do not share your two-factor authentication code with anyone.
  • Change your passwords regularly.
  • Do not download unfamiliar links or apps.
  • Do not grant access to your device through software like AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or other remote access tools.
  • Download apps only from official app stores (Google Play Store, iOS App Store).

Additionally, if you become a victim of such an incident, you are urged to contact your nearest bank, financial institution, or the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau.
