Kathmandu: President of the United States, Joe Biden, 81, has announced the end of reelection race for the President in the election due in November this year.

Biden was widely called on to step aside from the race by the Party and donors as well following ‘disastrous performance’ on 27 June debate against Donald J Trump.

Posting a letter on ‘X’ on Sunday addressed to “my fellow Americans”, President Biden wrote “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”

Endorsing sitting vice-president Kamala Harris as the new Democratic nominee for the presidential bid in his subsequent post, Biden wrote “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term. My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year.”

Meanwhile, Harris said she is honored to be endorsed by Biden. “I am honored to have the President’s endorsement and my intention is to earn and win this nomination,” she said as quoted in CNN.
