Kathmandu, 4 Aug:   The government of Nepal has granted permission to Thai Air Asia to operate its flights between Bhairahawa and Bangkok.

Prime Minister K P Oli made the announcement through his social media ‘X’  on Saturday that the Thai Air Asia has been authorized to operate four flights in a week bringing the Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) also known as Bhairahawa International Airport into operation.

The government of Nepal has been negotiating with the government of India, so far without any success, for Indian airspace for international flights to and from Bhairahawa.

‘We’re working to fully utilize Pokhara and Bhairahawa international airports for international flights’ Oli said, ‘this will reduce the pressure on Tribhuvan International Airport’.

The Prime Minister has also solicited suggestions from the experts on airport operation.
